KVPY

Brief

The KVPY examination was started in 1999 and is promoted by the Department of Science and Technology of Government of India. The exam has since its inception been held annually by IISC Bangalore and its qualifiers are granted scholarships for pursuing basic sciences studies up to Pre-PhD level.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program for identifying and encouraging the scientific aptitude in students. Students studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate program in basic sciences are selected based on performance in Aptitude test and interview. Fellowship and contingency grant are offered from 1st year of graduation up to pre-Ph.D. level or 5 years (whichever is earlier). Monthly Stipend of Rs. 5,000/- and Annual Contingency Grant of Rs. 20,000/- are granted during 1st to 3rd year after which it increases to Monthly Stipend of Rs. 7,000/- and Annual Contingency Grant of Rs. 28,000/- for next 2 years.

The fellowship of the students appearing for KVPY will be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science.
